Status Update, looking for volunteers and Zearth raws

The purpose of this post is to expand upon what was original stated in this post, and provide updates on progress (or lack thereof) of existing projects.  If the status of a project you are curious about is not brought up here, assume nothing has changed from the previous post.  REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE WILL BE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I HAVE ALL THE SUBTLETY OF A BRICK TO THE FACE.

Da-Garn - As we have done in the past, we are now caught up with the latest of kou's scripts.  There is nothing we can really do now except wait for her to get a little more free time to devote to Da Garn so we can finally speed on into the endgame.

WE WOULD LIKE TO KINDLY REQUEST THAT ANYONE WITH  UNCOMPRESSED DVDS FOR DA GARN WHO WOULDN'T MIND SHARING THEM WITH US TO PLEASE CONTACT US OR HIKARI SENSHI SO WE MAY CONTINUE WITH THE V2S.

Stronger - As to be as vague as I possibly can, over the past couple months jeeg had some irl issues that took up most of his time and concentration so that naturally stalled all projects that rely on his expertise, of which Stronger is no exception.  Thankfully, things have begun to get better for him that I think we might be getting the Strongerbus a-runnin' again.

On the unsubbed eps: All eps are prelim timed and translated, with half of them being fully tl checked and ready for the editing process.

On the sjutton eps: It has regretfully come to our attention that at the time sjutton wasn't nearly as skilled a translator as we believed.  As a result all these eps are going to need some extensive editing.  A very trustworthy timer has volunteered to assist with the important step of retiming the sjutton eps thus paving the way for the v2s.

Also expect v2s of existing eps eventually for the purpose of making everything consistent with one another.

Kuuga  - First off I wanna thank out amazing buddy corin for retiming the entire series, this marks the end of the first big step is finally getting this series done right.

BUT unfortunately because of the irl issues mentioned earlier jeeg is questioning whether he wishes to continue with project at all, he has not dropped out, but the v3s are definitely paused.

We stand by zetta's translation for Kuuga episodes 13-50 and the specials, BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THE ASSISTANCE OF ANY TRANSLATORS TO ASSIST US IN TL CHECKING THE FIRST 12 EPISODES OF THE SERIES as these are episodes that were done last and without zetta's input.

Now lastly on the topic of Kuuga.  As a result of the v3s being a long ways away, the fact remains that the existing files are all hardsubbed with rather subpar raws and have that yellow font that people seem to not be quite fond of.  So we'll be releasing a v1.5 torrent to replace the existing torrent with muxes of the bunnyhat raws and with scripts that at the very least lack any major timing issues.  (Translations for signs and grongi speak will still have to wait for the v3s)

Hybrid Insector - I know I said last update that the series was basically done, but sigh... a crucial staff member had an irl family issue and dropped out of sight.  I recently got back in touch with him and he promises me he'll finish his work on the series.

Black Manga - TL had finals, but now that he has downtime he has finished volume 4, which is now in the hands of the qc.  He assures me that volume 5 is both awesome (Black vs Feudal Japanese Zombies) and will be coming down the pipeline soon.

ZX v2 - What can I say other than this was something that just slipped through the cracks.  Now that Stronger will be up and running soon, I believe this will follow soon after.

Ultraman '66 (Chiyao DVD Rips) - If we get Blu Ray raws, we'll gladly apply the DVD subs to those.  ALSO WE HAVE RAWS FOR THE REVIVE! ULTRAMAN ANNIVERSARY "40TH EPISODE" SPECIAL AS WELL AS THE BLACK AND WHITE "EPISODE 0" BIRTH OF ULTRAMAN STAGE SPECIAL IF ANYONE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN TRANSLATING THEM.

Ultraman Tiga (FUNi DVD Rips) - I HAVE UNCOMPRESSED DVDS FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES AS WELL AS THE FINAL ODYSSEY MOVIE IF ANYONE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN ENCODING THESE EITHER FOR RAW DISTRIBUTION OR FOR V2S (A PROCESS WHICH WILL REQUIRE TIMERS) THEN WE'RE ALL EARS.  ALSO IF ANYONE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN TLING THE TIGA MOVIE WE WILL GLADLY SHARE OUR DVDS.

Ryuki HBV - Sadly we have been informed that this HBV was never put on any dvd so the only raw available is the poor quality VHS rip we originally released the HBV in.  IF SOMEONE WERE CRAZY ENOUGH TO BUY THE VHS AND RIP IT TO MAKE A MARGINALLY BETTER RAW then of course we'd use that, but as it stands, we will be releasing a 'v1.1' with the same VHS raw, but with the dialogue cleaned up a little and with the song lyrics replaced with Kou's translation of 'Alive A Life'.  V1.1 RELEASED

Secret Project A - Yes I know "What?  Another project after you basically dropped everything and just laid a bunch of excuses on us?  Fuck off"'.  But this is a joint project with another group that's been slowly in the works for a while.  Essentially, this is a v2 project of an existing and completed toku series, with the blessing of the original translator who was displeased with how the group he worked with handled his scripts.  Heat from OT agreed to tl check episodes the tl was unsure of, and before the project got stalled, he completed the majority of the eps in his queue.

Don't expect this to come out for a while (shocker I know), BUT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ASSIST WITH THIS, THIS PROJECT COULD ALWAYS USE TIMERS TO RETIME CERTAIN EPS TO FIT WITH NEW DVD9 RAWSPOSITION FILLED

Zaido - For those who don't remember last year we had a friend of ours translate an episode of Zaido for April Fool's Day and we passed it off as an episode of Gavan.  Well a few people were curious if this were only a joke or if this was the subtle hint of a new project.  Well, it wasn't, as a joke I brought up the idea with the translator of the April Fool's Joke and he reacted.... very poorly.

France Five - It has been brought to our attention that someone has actually fully subbed the series.  You can grab it here

and finally
Ultraman Zearth Raws

A while ago parlayed some of my R1 Godzilla dvds in a trade with a raw/iso hoarder.  Well one of the things I got out of the deal were these raws,

Ultraman Zearth is the titular protagonist of two Ultraman parody movies, a fun and goofy Ultra with massive OCD.  The movies also include a boatload of cameos from actors from all over the franchise.

A buddy of mine wanted to check them out so I uploaded them to nyaa, so IF YOU WISH TO TRANSLATE THIS OR SUBTITLE IT FOR YOURSELF or simply want to observe the insanity, here ya go.

  1. I do want to say thank you very much for the status update.

But I also have a question regarding Ultraman '66 and Ultraman Tiga. When you say they are Chiyao and Funi dvd rips, what does that mean? How is the encodes from those releases different than the encodes from a Japanese dvd release? I don't understand.

    1. It means that they're rips of the subtitles from Chaiyo's official subs of Ultraman '66, and Funimation's official subs of Ultraman Tiga respectively.
Thing is, Chaiyo were embroiled in a legal battle with Tsuburaya Productions until 2008. Tsuburaya Productions (naturally) refused to release any of its materials for use in those releases, so if you’ve picked up the Ultraman or Ultraseven DVD sets in the US and wondered by the video quality is so bad– surprise, it’s because they had to be licensed through companies working for Chaiyo! So the japanese dvd9s (or the blurays) of Ultraman '66 would look a lot better than the encodes made from Chaiyo's dvds.

  2. i would love it if you could possibly upload the raws for Revive Ultraman & the 66 Live Show..... i have never seen a complete version of the Revive special . thank you to the entire uploading/translating community for all the hard work and great shares over the last few years.... true labors of love to be sure..... i do understand if you do not wish to upload the raws for Revive or the 66 special but i thought i would plead for them since the wonderful raws for Zearth were uploaded.... Revive would be a pleasure to be able to view.... thanks for all either way and good fortune to you for the future...

  5. Given that Kou is finally done with her scripts, the finish line is almost practically reached for Da Garn now.

So please hang in there a while longer, Brave heroes!

  7. "We stand by zetta's translation for Kuuga episodes 13-50 and the specials"

Really? Because as just a casual speaker of Japanese I've noticed quite a few errors in these episodes. Particularly the translation of the second OP lyrics, which seem to have been made up wholesale in some places. (Ex. "vacant planet" are words that do not appear in Japanese; "Eiyuu wa tada hitori de ii" means "There need only be one hero", not "A hero is a single good person"; "subete" is translated as "soon" rather than "every", and so forth.) Are these errors going to be fixed?

    1. From what I gather the 2nd verse of the OP didnt get much thought put into it, part of the many mistakes from how the series was done back then.

We do intend to fix stuff like that
